Fear - Courage Trump Violence - Torture

The Trump Danger to many Christians is Real

Christian friends: If you support Trump, it is a pastoral problem for me.

Violence - thuggish activity - is profoundly unChristian

You are increasing the danger – the fear and threat – in which a significant percentage of my Christian friends, including my congregation, live.

It is vigorously un-Christian to approve the stirring up of anger and danger and hate against our fellow citizens.
  • those whose skin is darker (a little or a lot),
  • all of the women,
  • those with Jewish heritage,
  • Muslims, or people who might be Muslim,
  • those a little less “conservative” than others,
  • any who have had abortions,
  • any who have been active homosexually
  • etc. etc.
I am not making a political argument. I am making a ministry argument, a Gospel argument.

The threat reaches almost everyone

– whoever Trump feels like singling out on any given occasion!

Trump’s “ministry” is stirring up anger and hasty judgment. He is in fact stirring up hate. He is deliberately increasing the danger we all live in. And it is a Gospel matter.

How can it be wise to stir up hate – to increase danger? How can it be Christian to stir up anger?  Threat leads to violence – hate leads to hurt.

How can it be good for society for prominent persons to broadcast threats when Jesus said that people would know we are disciples by our LOVE?

I am making a ministry argument, a Gospel argument.

Seriously. I am not making a political argument.

It is vigorously un-Christian to approve the stirring up of anger and danger and hate against our fellow citizens.  Please do not encourage or justify hate. Some of our brothers and sisters in Christ already have a target on them, just because of their skin color. Trump’s rhetoric increases the visibility of those targets.  Please do not support making those targets even bigger. Do not encourage the haters.

  • This does not mean I’m voting for Clinton. I fear they are both corrupt and very dangerous, though in different ways. I plan to vote for Jill Stein. It seems she is more interested in actually trying to protect the vast majority of us as against the oligarchic elite.
