Tom Tomorrow’s “This Modern World” is not one of my favorite cartoons – after all, there’s no visual art involved. But this is sickeningly wise and prescient.
This cartoon was done three years ago. And guess what? Bush and Co. are right on track.
Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran – reminds me again of Habakkuk 1:
10 They laugh at all fortified cities – they capture them.
11 Then they sweep past like the wind and go on –
guilty men, whose own strength is their god.
Must not be a very effective “god” for this current bunch of military imperialists. They cannot manage even to do the “capture them” part with any permanence or effectiveness. And they have (or at least they had) the strongest economy and most advanced military at their disposal. “Disposal.” Appropriate word.
“Military imperialists” is exactly right, Larry. The Bush Administration is composed of evil old men with dreams of an American Empire.
Your “disposal” comment reminded me of something I was thinking a few weeks ago. When our founding fathers dedicated “life, fortune, and personal honor”, I dont think they had in mind throwing them away with unnecessary wars, massive deficits, and a “justice” department that believes in recinding civil liberties and commiting torture.
