Jesus Christ Politics Resistance.

Is Jesus a Republican? Is Jesus a Liberal?

As far as we know, Jesus never directly mentioned either homosexual behavior or abortion / infanticide. And we can be sure that’s not because he cared nothing for moral or social issues. He cared a great deal.

As for power and politics,

one of my favorite lines from Jesus

is when he was doing a meandering teaching – healing tour on the way to Jerusalem for the last time. Religious authorities, harassing him, suggested he go into hiding because “Herod is looking for you”. (Herod the non-Roman ruler under the Roman thumb, was not known for excercising democratic or humanitarian procedures very regularly.) Jesus says, in effect, “Go tell that sneaky predator where I am, and what my agenda and schedule are. Don’t forget to mention that I’ll be in Jerusalem in three days”.

That’s not the response of a man cowed by authority religious or political.

But “the common people heard him gladly,”

and he saw and heard them gladly, and loved them deeply, and served them any way he could. Is that liberal? Probably. He was very liberal in his remarks about wealth and power (critical of the misevaluation and misuse of those gifts), and very conservative in refusing to advocate any kind of overt rebellion.

He was very conservative in his love for God, Temple, and the Scriptures, and very liberal in his willingness to critique the use of those things, and to be misinterpreted as disrespecting those things — and in his readiness to get kicked out of synagogue for speaking what he saw in the Scriptures and in the world around him, no matter the situation or the “gravity” of those present.

So Liberal and Conservative are probably the wrong parameters.

But it’s a very valuable and stimulating question.

Is Jesus a Republican? Would he be a Democrat OR Republican today? Well, it’s VERY hard for me to imagine him being associated with today’s machiavellian Republican party, and not easy to imagine him being officially associated with the [greedy, manipulative – 2017] Democrats. In his day he would not even take a political stance against Herod, Pilate, or Ceasar. But he undermined all of them AND the religious establishment by his clearly emphasized moral priorities.

  • J.D.K. …A balance Government is necessary ….. Lack of government is ANARCHY! …. We as Christians have also a Social Responsibility……Do you like to live in a Country that doesn’t take care of their SICK? ……If you look at the difference between the Countries that are doing well versus the Countries
that are doing poorly …is that the Countries that are doing well
have RESPONSIBLE BALANCED GOVERNMENT that takes care of their Citizens needs ………What they have is a Government that CARES!…when you look at the countries that have little or no government their citizens live in utterly CHAOS !!!!
Their citizens have little or no education, they lack health care and the people are reduce to slavery ……Is that the kind of Country you want to leave in ? We need Government …DEMOCRACY definition is a GOVERNMENT BY THE PEOPLE FOR THE PEOPLE (FOR ALL THE PEOPLE) …..Not By the RICH for the RICH.

  • Labeling Jesus according to our politics is a stupid, ignorant, heretical game. Everything that we need to know about Jesus’s will is set down in Scripture. As I recall, the words liberal, conservative, democrat, and republican do not appear in Scripture. Therefore, the real issue is not whether Jesus is liberal or conservative, but whether our liberalism/conservatism is Scriptural. Arguing about the former is self-justifying, self-righteous, and shallow, reducing Scripture to a political system. Examining the latter is humbling and edifying, and forces us to measure our beliefs against Scripture.

Jason: JESUS fed the poor. JESUS healed sick, JESUS fulfilled the Law and was crucified for our sins. The government did not feed the poor. The government did not heal the sick. The government cannot wash away our sins. More government is not the answer.

  • I think Jesus would be republican. 1. Jesus would never feed the poor aka: Welfare, 2. Jesus would never heal the sick aka: health care, And Jesus was crucified aka: capital punishment.

  • I think Jesus would be a comination of the two. For instance, he may be pro-universal healthcare and pro-life.

  • God always mentioned marriage between a man and a woman in the bible, numerous times. Not once did he mention man-man or woman-woman “marriage”.

He also said, “Thou shalt not murder.”

I believe, like the Pope, that a nation that murders its own children is a nation without hope.

Vote Pro-Life and for the sanctity of marriage.
