Eisenhower on Security – and Moral Bankruptcy

there is no way in which a country can satisfy the craving for absolute security

“No way.” No way. As in not possible in this world.

but it can easily bankrupt itself,
morally and economically,
in attempting to reach that illusory goal through arms alone.
– President (& General) Dwight D. Eisenhower

In other words, you can’t buy enough guns (etc) to make yourself safe. But you can go completely nuts trying.

Eisenhower quoted by Brian McLaren in Everything Must Change, p 167.

  • Great post, and hear, hear to Harrison for well-written truth.

And Larry and Connie, thanks for hanging in there and keeping this little forum alive. You are an oasis amid a vast desert of deception and foolishness.

When I think of all the outrages done in the name of “national security” worldwide – for which the US is now almost universally called the chief terrorist of the world – and the tragic ignorance of the populace about all the secret forces employed worldwide under the auspices of the flag, who are foreigners working under “unconventional warfare” contracts who have no allegiance to the US, but are mercenaries – when I meditate on the horror that the US supplies over 70% of arms worldwide, and trains some 150 foreign armies/police forces – it blows my mind that Christians can’t catch onto this gambit.

You really have to wonder sometimes if US Christians read Isaiah or Jeremiah or Ezekiel. Or if they think these prophets were mere ranting journalists with no contemporary information.

I personally believe the OT prophets spoke of the resurrection of the dead – a future vision – of certain peoples. After all, that is part of our Nicene creed – that we believe in the corporeal resurrection of the dead. I truly believe that the Mosaic texts are coded representations of future resurrections, and that the prophets were writing of something much further in the future.

    How apropos are Ezekiel’s words:

    Ezekiel 32:23 NAS
whose graves are set in the remotest parts of the pit and her company is round about her grave. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword, who spread terror in the land of the living.

    Ezekiel 32:24 NAS
“Elam is there and all her hordes around her grave ; all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who went down uncircumcised to the lower parts of the earth, who instilled their terror in the land of the living and bore their disgrace with those who went down to the pit.

    Ezekiel 32:25 NAS
“They have made a bed for her among the slain with all her hordes. Her graves are around it, they are all uncircumcised, slain by the sword (although their terror was instilled in the land of the living ), and they bore their disgrace with those who go down to the pit ; they were put in the midst of the slain.

    Ezekiel 32:26 NAS
“Meshech, Tubal and all their hordes are there ; their graves surround them. All of them were slain by the sword uncircumcised, though they instilled their terror in the land of the living.

    Ezekiel 32:27 NAS
“Nor do they lie beside the fallen heroes of the uncircumcised, who went down to Sheol with their weapons of war and whose swords were laid under their heads ; but the punishment for their iniquity rested on their bones, though the terror of these heroes was once in the land of the living.

    Ezekiel 32:32 NAS
“Though I instilled a terror of him in the land of the living, yet he will be made to lie down among the uncircumcised along with those slain by the sword, even Pharaoh and all his hordes,” declares the Lord GOD.

  • War makes slaves of us all. We fail to recognize the truth of where we have come and instead exploit foreign countries as an excuse to keep our own economy afloat.

More and more the structure of our government is deteriorating. Am unequal balance of power and control of wealth moving to corporations.

God is never considered. It has all been reduced to activity for the sake of wealth on a global scale. Man in and of himself, in his community is insignificant, to this purpose.

The more fear man has the less freedom he feels. He becomes enslaved to consumerism and then a false sense of nationalism i.e. our current involvement in the far east.

We are headed toward fascism. We have forgotten the lessons of the past. They are no longer taught or discussed.

Man in his freedom and community is the only real threat to the predominant world order. No religion no freedom.

The only salvation is in Jesus Christ and The Father. There is no other way.
