Politics

Did You Vote?

Some Biblical perspective.

First, our hope has to be higher than human society, politics, government, churches, or wars.

Psalm 146:

3 Do not put your trust in princes,
in mortal men, who cannot save.
4 When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;
on that very day their plans come to nothing.
5 Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the LORD his God,
6 the Maker of heaven and earth,
the sea, and everything in them—
the LORD, who remains faithful forever.

Second, it matters greatly to the Divine Spirit what kinds of values we support.

7 He upholds the cause of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry.
The LORD sets prisoners free,

8 Tthe LORD gives sight to the blind,
the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down,
the LORD loves the righteous.

9 The LORD watches over the alien
and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.

Sad to say, it is my considered and well-established judgment that a vote for McCain – Palin is effectively a vote to continue
— dishonesty and nastiness in political campaigns
— irresponsible belligerence in relation to friends and enemies around the world
— increases in infant mortality, childhood disease and death, mortality among young mothers, and – yes – even increases in abortion rates around the world
— wildly irresponsible fiscal policy, including pouring 100’s of billions into rat holes (where it turns out many of the rats are already-wealthy and already-powerful Americans)
— intolerance and hate-talk
— religious leaders misleading us by their obsession with political power and avoidance of the actual teachings and moral priorities of Jesus and, as illustrated above, of the Old Testament writers.
— lying by top officials to promote policies and adventures the people of this land would not otherwise approve of (e.g. our invasion of Iraq)
— How long could this list be!!

Gladly, we can say we have serious candidates for the top two political offices in this land who represent a much higher level of integrity, skill, commitment, energy, and even of intelligence.

It seems to me that, even though no one is perfect and no political system will ever be “perfect” (whatever “perfect” means), we still have a responsibility to choose to move our nation (and thus the whole world) in the direction of integrity, intelligence, discipline, love, hope, moderation, appropriate forcefulness, etc., when given the opportunity.

Obama represents all of those good things, and is a Christian and true family man as well. We really have no choice.

That’s why I voted for Obama – Biden (and for Scott Kleeb for Senate) a few weeks ago.

  • You know what gets me about the entire abortion polemic?

Jesus taught that to think murder in the heart was every bit as damning as the physical act (and so on with adultery, coveting, etc.).

Therefore those who “hate” Obama about abortion issues become hypocrites and enjoin themselves in the act of murder.

I could carry on, but I think you see the point. America is not absolved of “unrighteousness” by addressing any particular physical act.

The hate around the abortion polemic only furthers evil.

Furthermore, if someone (and they all do) campaigns on this as an issue but yet supports the butchery of black ops worldwide by the secret services, what do they get, a “mere hypocrisy” brownie point?
