MLK Jr on Ends vs Means

You know the old problem: Must we do evil that good may come? Or, as Connie expressed it recently, “Can you [a group or a nation] survive by not being evil? I wonder what that would look like.”

Means and ends must cohere because the end is preexistent in the means, and ultimately destructive means cannot bring about constructive ends …

The means we use must be as pure as the ends we seek.

- Martin Luther King Jr.

Wow. High standard. And accurate, I think.
