Here’s part of my reaction: “No matter how thin you slice it, it’s still baloney.”

I was lucky, at work all day to line the corporate pockets and fund the Jimmy Chiu shoes et al. Reading the excerpts about “freedom” and “liberty” to be exported, I realized Bush is the gift that keeps on giving-goodbye Iraq, hello, Iran!

Not only was Iraq never mentioned, but neither was the word “terror.” But tyranny appeared many times, as in American is committed to removing tyranny wherever its found. Some people think Bush was rattling sabers, some think it was just a bunch o high-sounding blather.

I did not see the speech, but I give it an A as a good read. I had cspan2 streaming the protests sponsored by A.N.S.W.E.R. and others–these folks possess a remarkably willful ignorance and unwarranted sense of self-importance. Talk about thinly sliced baloney, it was transparent.

Celtic harp music. My radio hasn’t been on in two days.

I just ignored it. Saw a headline beforehand how Bush planned to make the theme “Liberty,” yada yadda. Yawn. Heard it all before. Coming from this giy , the word doesn’t mean anything, except the liberty of the ruling class to pick our pockets clean.

Now, if he’d chosen to speak on “proclaiming liberty to the captives,” in the sense of Isaiah and Jesus, I might have wanted to tune in. But that kind of thing is not what these people are about.

I am praying for the leadership, however… praying God might lead them to repentance. Guess it’s a start in the right direction, as previously I never prayed for them at all.

I read the text of the speech on the internet, and didn’t see any references to the agenda of the Christian right. But then Bush came out this week and said he wouldn’t push for the marriage amendment and there was hardly any reaction from the Christian right. He may have been testing the waters for a reaction before making today’s speech. However, the fact their lack of reaction was reported (in this case by the Baptist Center for Ethics) means that along with their claims of victory comes an increase in scrutiny that will continue to bring hypocrisy about some of these issues out in the open. Maybe it just wasn’t a surprise to them because Bush had already signaled he wouldn’t follow their agenda when he outlined his priorities in his post-election speech.

I did enjoy the Daily Show’s review of the speech – they counted how many times the words ‘freedom’ and ‘liberty’ were used. Apparently ‘freedom’ beat out ‘liberty by a wide margin prompting the comment that liberty had been damaged by the Patriot Act.
