I was not speaking of the exploitation of the poor, which as you point out, was displeasing to God in ancient times, and obviously remains so today. Quite the opposite, I was attempting to show the role of family (particularly marriage), community, and yes, hard work, as the most effective ways out of poverty, then and now.

May I ask your thoughts about vouchers and social mobility, and what you believe the book of Ruth says about exploitation?

Exactly, they promote Republicanism over Jesus Christ. There is an ignorance of the Gospel in American Churches. Try listening to Paul Washer's 10 incitements of the Modern American Church to get a clue. They promote wealth as an example of God's blessing, and that is NOT biblical. They need t look at how Jesus handled the rich young ruler, but they give false arguments for that too.

What you are doing, besides distorting the truth about what the bible says about exploitation of the poor: as if the poor weren't working harder than those who exploited them in Ruth's day. The article is talking about how Republicans are not real followers of Jesus Christ. You are using false logic (red herrings for one) to take attention away from that facts. Republicans have other gods, like money and power: among other things. They use God's name in vain to promote their lust for both. They are using American Christianity for the same reason. It is a political ploy, and a fairly recent one at that.

We are aware of Ayn Rand’s hostility to religion in general and Christianity in particular; her vehemence on the subject is thoroughly documented and perfectly obvious to anyone who has read anything that she wrote. However, her philosophy, though flawed at best, recognized the benefits of free commerce, which she codified thus: “It is a system where men deal with one another, not as victims and executioners, nor as masters and slaves, but as traders, by free voluntary exchange to mutual benefit.” A statement, I hope, that any Christian would agree is- theoretically at least- fair and just, and Biblically redeemable in its call for diligence, honesty, personal responsibility, and prudence.

On the other hand, she abhorred God and grace, and poured contempt on original sin and the need of redemption, for which she ought to be censured.
In presuming man to be the end unto himself, she secured his rights to the mere temporary accident of his being alive, rather than the dignity he is endowed with as a creature formed in the image of Eternal God; rights, when thought to be granted from any perishable human quality- or institution- are equally perishable.

Though there is great prescience in her condemnation of an overbearing centralized government, objectivism offers only superficial solutions. Ayn Rand thought that the problem with society was a pervasive suicidal irrationality, when that is just one symptom. The real problem is sin, and ultimately, the only solution is Christ. She was, as were we all, dead to Christ, and it shows. But we should not demonize her, for she was just another lost sinner who needed grace more than she knew.

"Aren’t they aware of how anti-christian Ayn Rand Objectivism is.." NO they are not. A few months before this past election I saw a documentary on Ayn Rand. Had never read her work but only heard good things about her. I was floored when I began hearing throughout the film, exactly articulations of the modern conservative movement, and things most of my Christian friends agree with. I was already disgusted with the Christian marriage to right-wing politics, but that pushed me over the edge and I couldn't think of anything much more opposed to the teachings of Christ. I began writing a blog called Fish Foam on blogger - just could not keep silent, and I have so much more to say.

Then I came across a book by Terry Wildman called "Sign Language", about Native Americans and Christianity, and I became even more appalled... and more disillusioned with our "Godly heritage". Please keep writing this blog. More voices need to be heard. God bless!!

Someone who has truly repented would likely bear the fruits of the Holy Spirit, which Rush has almost none of. That said though, a Christian should be cautious to say that Rush is not a Christian, or not saved. That is what "passing judgement" really means. Not merely discerning the state of someone's actions. The biggest thing that saying "Rush is not Christlike" has going for it though is that... Rush has almost never said anything about actually being a Christian, if at all, and he acts about as far from what a Christian should act as possible. HOWEVER, a Christian is also Biblically commanded to call out Christians who are actively not walking the Christian walk. In fact, we are supposed to do so much more than we are to impose our same values on those outside the Church. Paul says this repeatedly, and Jesus made several statements that this can be understood from. Now, if you actually STUDY your Bible, you would probably also be aware that part of "repenting" means to turn around and go in the other direction. Do you REALLY think Rush has done that with his life? Maybe on a few issues that have gotten out into public, but the guy is still just as crass and vulgar and hate filled as ever.
